Nutrigenomics

Unlock the secrets in your DNA to thrive through midlife and beyond.

Nutrigenomics is the cutting-edge of personalised nutrition — where science meets your genes.

combining nutritional science with your unique genetic blueprint to help you feel your best from the inside out.

We can’t change our DNA, but we can change how it expresses itself. By understanding how your body responds to food, stress, toxins, and hormones, we can create a tailored plan that supports your health, energy, and balance — especially through perimenopause and beyond.

"You can't change your genes- but you can change how they work for you!"

What can nutrigenomic help with?

When your body feels "off", there's often more going on beneath the surface. Your DNA can reveal why- and how to support your body more gently, naturally, and effectively.

Here's how working with your genes can help:

  • Weight and metabolism- Discover how your body processes carbohydrates, fats, and protein- and which diet style actually works for your genes.

  • Hormonal balance- Explore potential causes of symptoms like fatigue, mood swings and stubborn weight gain. Get clarity on what your body needs during hormonal transitions.

  • Detox and inflammation- Learn how your body detoxifies and where it may need extra support- from liver pathways to inflammation regulation.

  • Gut and food sensitives- Understand how your genes affect digestion, nutrient absorption, and potential reactions to certain foods.

  • Blood sugar balance and appetite control- Explore your risk for insulin resistance and how your genes influence appetite and energy dips.

  • Brain and emotional wellness- Identify how your genes impact mood, focus, sleep, and stress- and how to nourish your nervous system accordingly.

  • Long-term wellness- Pinpoint your body's unique strengths and vulnerabilities, so you can support vibrant health now and in the future.

"Knowledge is power- understanding your DNA is the first step to taking control of your health".

DNA Reports Available:

Nutrient Core

This test looks at gene variants that can affect food intolerance (and intolerance), appetite control and blood sugar balance, vitamin and mineral needs, detoxification ability and susceptibility to inflammation.

Nutrient core helps you to understand the fundamental genetic interactions with diet and lifestyle.

Nutrient core.png
Hormones.png

Hormones

This hormone test analyses genes involved in the regulation, synthesis, signalling, transport and metabolism of corticosteroid and sex hormones.

It looks at how gene variants affects hormones imbalance and details the nutrient and environmental factors that can influence and improve their balance.

Metabolics.png

Metabolics

This comprehensive metabolics report presents genes that can powerfully influence key pathways driving human metabolism. It incorporates over 40 genes and 50 single Nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) across 6 pathways, including appetite regulation, nutrient sensing, sugar and fat metabolism, cholesterol and bile, mitochondria and inflammation.

Detoxification.png

Detoxification

The detoxification test examines genes which impact Phase I reactions in the liver, including the cytochrome P450 oxidases, Phase II conjugation, including the UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGTs) and glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) and the phase III antiporter gene ABCB1, which affects the transport of medicines and other substances into and out of cells. This report identifies personalised nutritional support to optimise detoxification.

Methylation.png

Methylation

This methylation test examines genes involved in five sub-cycles- folate, methionine, neurotransmitters, transsulphuration and urea. This genetic test will inform whether someone is likely to be poor or overly efficient at processing cofactors- B6, B9 (folate), B12 (cobalamin), methionine, betaine, choline, zinc and magnesium; and inhibitors- chemicals, moulds, drugs, hormones, and heavy metals and provide guidance on how to support or bypass bottlenecks or weaknesses.

Thyroid.png

Thyroid Balance

This thyroid balance test analyses the genes involved in the thyroid hormone lifecycle: synthesis- centrally (in the thyroid) and in activation in peripheral tissues, transport and metabolism, processing of cofactors (vitamin D and A) and inhibitors (stress and toxins). It also examines genes that confer susceptibility to inflammation and autoimmunity.

Metals and Minerals.png

Metals and minerals

The metals and minerals test represents elements of your DNA profile that have shown to influence your need, status and metabolism of major and trace minerals, and heavy metals, genes include:

  •  Arsenic

  • Calcium

  • Copper

  • Iron

  • Magnesium

  • Manganese

  • Mercury

  • Metallothioneins

  • Phosphorus

  • Selenium

  • Sodium and potassium

  • Zinc

Nervous System.png

Nervous system

This report analyses gene variants that impact serotonin (happy/ contentment) and melatonin (sleep); dopamine (motivation); noradrenaline and adrenaline (fight or flight); glutamate (the major excitatory neurotransmitter); GABA (the major inhibitory neurotransmitter) which is critical for relaxation; and endocannabinoids (AEA/anandamide) which regulates other neurotransmitters. This report provides detailed recommendations for nutritional support to alleviate symptoms and to optimise mental health.

Histamine Intolerance.png

Histamine Intolerance

The histamine Intolerance test analyses the genes and nutrients needed to breakdown and remove histamine, showing where disruptions occur and how to support optimal function.

Diamine oxidase (DAO), which primarily breaks down histamine in the gut, can be impaired by gastrointestinal disease or ‘blockers’ such as alcohol, smoked or fermented foods, black tea, green tea and some medications such as non steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen or aspirin). Insufficient histamine-n-methyl- transferase (HNMT) in the nervous system and lungs can also lead to histamine overload.

APOE.png

APOE

The Apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene is best known for its role in lipid (fat) metabolism by helping to remove cholesterol from the bloodstream. It can exist in three main forms known as E2, E3 and E4.

The E4 form of the APOE gene has been associated with increased plasma cholesterol and triglycerides and susceptibility to cardiovascular disease - heart attacks or strokes due to atherosclerosis, insulin resistance and Alzheimer’s disease. However, having an E4 genotype is one of many risk factors and does not mean you will develop any of these conditions.

In addition to APOE, this test examines genes involved in methylation, inflammation, toxicity and neuroprotection, to enable individuals to take preventative action by adopting personalised nutrition and lifestyle changes to optimise their future, long term health.

Frequently Asked Questions......

What does the test do?

It is a genetic test that looks at your DNA. The report detects if you have any common gene variants (SNPs) that can influence biological functions including nervous system function, hormone balance or detoxification that can affect health. It does not measure blood or hormone levels. Sometimes it can be useful to look nutrigenomic results alongside other types of tests, for example blood markers or stool testing.

How do I perform the test?

The test is a simple non-invasive mouth swab that you do from the comfort of your own home. The only requirement is to not eat or drink for at least 2 hours before testing. You collect a sample from the inside of your cheeks using the swab and then place the sample inside a stabilising capsule in the tube provided. Once completed return with the signed consent form in the prepaid envelope and you can return any day.

Can anyone test?

Anyone can test, children (under the age of 18 years) can be tested with a parent or guardian’s consent. Our genes do not change as we age so the test only needs to be performed once, what does change is what you do to support your genetics to improve your long-term health.

Do I need to stop any medication before testing?

The test does not affect your diet, medical conditions/ supplements you are taking. The only requirement is to stop eating and drinking for at least 1 hour before testing.

What happens with my data?

Your data is sensitively stored and protected to the highest standards. Lifecode GX hold data for the minimum amount of time. When they receive your sample, it is allocated a barcode, and all other client identification is removed. The tests from Lifecode GX are only shared with their senior staff and practitioner who orders the test. Each test is processed in their ISO certified UK laboratory and all samples are destroyed after 3-months. All genotyping data is marked for destruction at 5-months and destroyed by 6-months. Your report, the data and the DNS sample will never be shared with or sold to any third parties. All the data extraction and analysis is done in the UK.

How accurate is the testing?

The genotyping process is very accurate, 99.9%. If results fail quality control they are not reported and are shown as “no result”. Each report is backed-by science when interpreting and fully referenced. The reports are reviewed regularly by Lifecode GX expert team to ensure they are up-to-date and clinically relevant.

Do you test for specific genetic conditions?

No, it does not diagnose medical conditions. For genetic conditions it is recommended to consult a health care professional such as the NHS. However, Nutrigenomic testing gives you an understanding of how your body functions as a whole, helping you to optimise nutrition, and lifestyle- for example stress response, hormone balance, detoxification and metabolism to support overall health and wellbeing to support quality of health long-term.
